If you are out on the Mobberley Rail Trail, when passing St Wilfrids Church, you may be tempted to look at the window in memory of George Leigh Mallory.
George Mallory, whose father was a rector of St Wilfrids, was the mountaineer who took part in three expeditions to Mount Everest and sadly died in 1924 when attempting the north-east ridge with Andrew “Sandy” Irvine.
As the church is usually locked, contact the Rector before visiting.
His details can be found on their website.
